Chain Link Brass Knuckles
When I think of the word “chain” the first thing that comes to my mind is either Jesse James’s recent tabloid bedroom antics or the frightening image of a vicious junkyard dog chained to a fence. The last thing I would associate the word chain with is ELEGANT, STYLISH, TRENDY & SEXINESS (ok maybe the whole sex/bondage thing does enter my mind..but in a stylish way not in a “let’s get freaky” kind of way). With chain’s popping up on everything from shoes, necklaces, rings, earrings, handbags & clothing it’s time to embrace that inner Bond-Age Girl and bring on the chain’s of love.
The most recognizable chain link is definetley the one made famous and fabulous by my mentor,muse and all around fashion goddess Coco Chanel. This style of chain can be found on the shoulder strap of every uptown, downtown logo flashing fashionista. The Chanel link has made it’s way from bags to belts to jewelry and to my most favorite and fiercest place of all..on the ankle straps of shoe’s, sandal’s and stiletto’s..a look that’s super haute!!
This Summer Lanvin’s shoe collection is adorned with chains. My favorite is the stack of gold chain’s around the ankle of their classic ballet flat. They managed to make an innocent completely sex-less looking ballet shoe and turn it into (your not gonna believe this..) SEXY!!!.. kind of like “I’m a ballerina by day..femme fatale by night” all rolled up into one comfy shoe..genius! And did you see the pair of Lanvin stiletto’s on Jennifer Aniston as she is seductively embraced by uber-hottie Gerard Butler as they grace the cover of this months W Magazine ?
These bad boys even made our favorite “girl next door” look like a bedroom vixen.
The first time a chain was ever used in fine woman’s clothing was by Coco Chanel herself. One of the best kept secrets in the construction of a Chanel jacket is during the final step in the creation of any Coco masterpiece a small delicate chain is hand-sewn by a trained Chanel tailor into the silk lining of the bottom of the jacket. This mini anchor weighs down the fabric resulting in the perfect shape and silhouette that Chanel jacket’s are known for. Mademoiselle Chanel herself once said, “a woman loves nothing more than to be wrapped in chains”…and I definitely couldn’t agree more!
